FIREWORKS SAFETY

What is hotter, melted glass or a sparkler?

Melted glass is 900 degrees F and a sparkler is 2000 degrees F!

The next time you hand your child a sparkler, keep them safe with the following tips:

*Always use fireworks under adult supervision
*Never relight a firework. If a firework fails, wait 20 minutes and then douse it with water
*Always douse spent fireworks with water before discarding
*Purchase fireworks from a reliable source
*Don’t let small children handle fireworks
*Follow the directions on the consumer product safety label
* PUT YOUR PETS INSIDE AND, IF POSSIBLE, AWAY FROM THE NOISE TO KEEP THEM FROM BEING PANICKED.

Fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires per year, including 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and 16,900 outside and other fires. These fires caused an average of three deaths, 40 civilian injuries, and an average of $43 million in direct property and fire damage. So enjoy the celebration with fireworks but keep safety in mind at all times, especially when small children are close by.
